シドニーは2023年下半期に入り非常に生活しにくくなっています。
インフレ、高額時給と生活に支障をきたすことが起きています。
Sydney is becoming very difficult to live in the second half of 2023.
There are problems with inflation and high hourly wages in Sydney.
私は現在もシドニー郊外にあるレストランで勤務しています。そこから見えてくるこの状況について考察してみました。
I still work at a restaurant in Sydney suburb. I tried to consider this situation.

シドニーで起きていることとは？
What’s happening in Sydney?
- インフレ Inflation
- 高額時給 High hourly wage
この2つです。
実はとてもエグいんです。もう普通に生活出来ないのです。
高額時給だけ見れば働いて受け取れる給料が多いわけで嬉しいですが、インフレが止まらない分出費が非常にかさむのです。
These are the two.
We can’t live a normal life.
If you look only at the high hourly wage, you can work and receive a lot of salary which is nice, but the expenses are more high because inflation does not stop.
インフレ(インフレーション)とは What is “Inflation”?
インフレ(インフレーション)とは、モノの値段が全体的に上がり、お金の価値が下がることを言います。
Inflation is when the overall price of goods rises and the value of money decreases.
インフレの原因として好景気があります。景気が良いとモノがよく売れ需要が供給を上回り結果モノの値段が上がります。
他の原因としては、賃金や原料の高騰などでモノを作るための費用が上がり、モノの値段が上がる場合です。
Booming is a cause of inflation. When the economy is good, goods sell well, demand exceeds supply, and as a result, the price of goods rises.
Another cause is that the cost of making things rises due to soaring wages and raw materials, and the price of goods rises.
シドニーで起こっているインフレは後者です。
The inflation happening in Sydney is the second reason.
また反対の現象をデフレ（デフレーション）と言います。デフレとは、モノの値段が全体的に下がりお金の価値が上がることを言います。
物価が安くなるからといって、デフレが良いわけではありません。モノの値段が下がり企業や会社の売上が減少すると、従業員の給与がカットされたり長引けば雇用も不安定になります。
The opposite phenomenon is called deflation. Deflation refers to a decline in the overall price of goods and an increase in the value of money.
Lower prices do not mean that deflation is good. If the price of goods falls down, employees’ salaries are cut or prolonged, employment will become unstable.
物価高 High prices
シドニーは高額時給が普通ですが、それ以上に物価高が止まらないのです。
数週間前といろんなモノの価格が違ってるんです。比べれば1年前とは全然違います。
High hourly wages are normal in Sydney, but prices do not stop rising.
The prices of various things are different from just few weeks ago. Compared to one year ago, it is completely different.
ちょっとモノを買う
ちょっと友達と会う為に電車やバスを使う
ちょっと旅行に行く
Buy a little stuff
Use the train or bus to meet up with friends for a moment
Go on a little trip
などちょっとした事は日常普通にあります。そのちょっとした事が全て今まで以上にお金がかかるのです。インフレが止まらないのです。
物価の上昇以上に収入が上がらなければ、生活は苦しいものになります。
It is common in everyday life. All those little things cost more money than ever. Inflation doesn’t stop.
If incomes do not rise more than the rise in prices, life will be difficult.
高額時給 High Hourly Wage
シドニーは今も高額時給です。
そしてこの条件はオーストラリアの会計年度が関係していたりします。
オーストラリアの会計年度が7月1日から翌年6月30日になるので、雇用条件の変更もそれに合わせています。なので毎年7月1日から雇用条件が変わるのです。今年7月1日からも最低時給が上がっているのです。
Sydney still has high hourly wages.
And this condition may be related to the Australian fiscal year.
As the Australian fiscal year runs from July 1 to Next Year June 30 of the following year, the changes in employment conditions are in line with this. Therefore, the employment conditions change from July 1 every year. The minimum hourly wage has also increased since July 1 this year.

From 1 July 2023, the national minimum wage was lifted to $23.23 per hour
2033年7月1日より最低時給は、$23.23
*$1=90円として$23.23=2090.70円になります。普通に働くだけで時給2000円超えが最低時給になります。
*$1 = 90 Japanese yen, it will be $23.23 = 2090.70 Japanese yen. The minimum hourly wage is over 2000 yen per hour just by working normally.
ですが実際はこの時給では雇えないのです。
But in reality, we can’t hire them at this hourly wage.
どういう事なのか? What does that mean?
最低時給$23.23は思っている以上に高額なんです。ですが実際はこの金額では雇えないのです。なぜならどのお店もこれ以上の金額を提示しているからなのです。つまりこれ以上の金額を提示しないといけないのです。
以前は物価が今ほど高くなく時給もこれほど高くなかったのですが、今は高額時給が普通。物価高で止まらないインフレ。普通にただ生活するだけでも思っている以上にお金を使うのです。
The minimum hourly wage of $23.23 is more expensive than you think. But in reality, we can’t hire them for this amount. This is because every store offers more than this. In other words, you have to offer more than that. In the past, prices were not high and hourly wages were not so high, and now high hourly wages are normal. Inflation does not stop with high prices. You spend more money than you think, even just to live a normal life.
ちなみに私が勤務しているレストランでは時給$24.50からです。$25.00に設定しているレストランも多くあります。
By the way, the restaurant where I work starts at $24.50 per hour. Many restaurants set it at $25.00.
なぜ時給が更に高いのか? Why are hourly wages even higher?
なぜ実際の最低時給よりも各レストランの提示額の方が高いのか?
Why is the price offered by each restaurant higher than the actual minimum hourly wage?
それはコロナが関係しています。コロナ禍ではオーストラリアは鎖国をしてました。つまりオーストラリアはワーキングホリデーや海外学生が一切入ってこない数年間を過ごしました。という事は国内にいる人たちだけで社会を回し、仕事をこなし、すべての事柄を行わなければなりませんでした。となるとコロナ前に比べてどの業界も雇用する人数を少なくしなければ成り立たなくなったのです。の期間に働いてる人間には+ αの給料が払われるようになりました。なぜならば鎖国をしているため新規入国者が全く居なかったからなのです。オーストラリアのほとんどの仕事や産業は、海外留学生やワーキングホリデーを頼っているものばかりです。それが新規入国者が全くあてにできないとなると今までよりも少ない雇用人数ですべてのことを行わなければならなくなりそれが今も続いているのです。
It has to do with Corona. During the Corona disaster, Australia was isolated. In other words, Australia spent several years on a working holiday and no overseas students coming in. This meant that only the people in the country had to run society, do their jobs, and do all the things. Therefore, every industry has to hire fewer people than before the coronavirus. People who work during the period are now paid +α salary. This is because there were no new entrants due to the isolation. Most jobs and industries in Australia rely on international students and working holidays. If you can’t count on newcomers at all, you have to do everything with fewer people than before, and that’s still happening.
今はコロナも落ち着きワーキングホリデーや海外留学生が日々入国しています。にも関わらず雇用数は変わって居ないのです。なぜならば社会がそれで何とかなるということが分かってしまったからなのです。そこに高額時給です。雇用数を少ないままにしておけば高額時給へは対応できるのです。そして法律よりも高い時給を提示して求人を行う。それに合わせて人は仕事を探します。
Now that Corona has calmed down, working holidays and international students are entering the Australia every day. Nevertheless, the number of jobs has not changed. This is because we have come to realize that society can manage with it. There are high hourly wages now. If you keep the number of employee low, you can cope with high hourly wages. Then, they offer a higher hourly wage than the law and make a job offer. People look for jobs accordingly.
現実には何が起きている? What’s happening in reality?
幾ら高額時給とはいえ働いていればそれに見合った給料が受け取れます。それは間違いではありません。しかし現実はそう甘くないのです。
Even if you work with high hourly wage, you will receive a salary commensurate with it. That’s not a mistake. But the reality is that it’s not that easy.
高額時給であるがどの仕事も雇用数が少ない。
それでいて海外からも日々ワーキングホリデーや海外留学生が入国してきています。
なのでそこまでその人1人に頼らなくても良いのです。つまりひとり1人が働ける時間が少なくなっているのです。
高額時給とはいえ労働時間が少なければ思っているよりも少ない給料を受け取ることになります。
Although the hourly wage is high, the number of jobs is less.
At the same time, working holiday and international students from overseas are entering the country every day.
So employer doesn’t have to rely on that one person that much. In other words, there are fewer hours for each person to work.
Even though it is a high hourly wage, if you work fewer hours, you will receive less salary than you think.
そこにインフレです。
店長さんやマネージャーさんは以前であれば今ほどの高額時給ではないのでここまでピリピリすることはなかったですが、今の高額時給から考えると人件費とインフレでものすごく気を使わなければなりません。
Inflation.
In the past, store managers and managers would not have been so nervous because their hourly wages were not as high as they are now, but considering the current high hourly wages, they have to be very careful about labour costs and inflation.
仕事にありつけない Can not find job
高額時給でも仕事をしていればそれに見合った給料は受け取れるのですがコロナ前と比べてどこのお店も雇用人数を少なくしています。なので仕事にありつけれない人が続出しているのです。
If you work at a high hourly wage, you can receive a salary commensurate with it, but every store employs fewer people than before Corona. That’s why there are many people who can’t find a job.
コロナで雇用に変化が出ました、それが今でも続いているのです。

私が働いてるレストランはそこまで大きくありません。なのでスケジュールを組むのにそれほど困りませんが、客席が百席を超えるような大きなレストランになると店長さんは大変です。
The restaurant I work is not big. So I don’t have much trouble making a schedule, but when it is a large restaurant more than 100 seats, it is very difficult to making schedule for the manager.
家賃は笑えない Too high Rent
家賃の上がり方が異常なんです。
数ヶ月前とは週$20～$40違うところがあります。
たった$20と思うでしょうがそれが毎週の家賃です。
1年前と比べて1週間の家賃は軒並み$50.00～$100.00以上上がってます。
これでは幾ら高額時給でも家賃が上がり過ぎているのでたまりません。
The rent goes up is abnormal.
There is a difference of $20~$40 per week from a few months ago.
You’d think it’s only $20, but that’s the weekly rent.
Compared to one year ago, the weekly rent has increased by more than $50.00~$100.00 across the board.
This is irresistible because the rent has risen too much even at a high hourly wage.

今住んでいる場所よりも良いところや便利な場所を探しても今支払っている家賃より確実に高いので動きたくても動けないのです。
Even if you look for a better or more convenient place than where you live now, you will definitely not to move because the rent is definitely higher than the rent you are paying now.
この先どうなるのか? What happens next?
インフレはおさまる気配すらない。
高額時給だけど仕事にありつけれない。
Inflation shows no signs of even subsiding.
It’s a high hourly wage, but can’t get a job.
普通に仕事につき普通に生活することすら難しい状態になっています。
この先どうなるのか?これ以上物価が上がれば本当に色んな事を考えないといけなくなります。
It has become difficult to even work normally and live a normal life.
What happens next? If prices rise any further, we will have to think about various things.
まとめ Summary
今のシドニーは、止まらないインフレ、高額時給であるが仕事を見つけにくいので普通に生活することすら困難な状態が続いています。
今年に入ってから入国してきた人達はこれが普通と思うでしょうが実は違います。
何もかもが高過ぎます。
Today, Sydney has unstoppable inflation and high hourly wages, and it is difficult to find a job, so it continues to be difficult to even live a normal life.
People who have entered the country since the beginning of this year may think that this is normal, but in fact it is not.
Everything is too expensive.
コロナが収まりマスクの無い生活に戻れたと思ったら今度は人自体が苦しんでいる状態です。
