12月はその年の最後の月。その年を振り返ってみたり、新年への抱負を考えてみたり、ホリデースケジュールを考えたり、バーゲンへの準備をしたりとなんだかんだで忙しいんです。
December is the last month of the year. Looking back on the year, thinking about New Year’s resolutions, thinking about holiday schedule, and preparing for a bargain.
12月のシドニーに何がある? What’s on in Sydney in December?
12月のシドニーには一体何があるのでしょうか?
クリスマス、ボクシングデーセール、ホリデーに大晦日のカウントダウン花火。多くのイベントがありますし、季節が夏になりますので開放的にもなりますのでハジケてしまいます。
What’s on in Sydney in December?
There are many events, Christmas, New Year Eve (NYE) countdown fireworks, Boxing Day Sale and Summer holiday. The season is summer, it will be open, so it will be a mess.
クリスマス Christmas
12月と言えばクリスマスです。
オーストラリアは南半球にある為、北半球のような冬のホワイトクリスマスは味わえません。夏のサマークリスマスになります。
よく見る光景として、クリスマス前後にはサンタさんのコスプレをしたサーファーがビーチに登場したり、サーフィンをしていたり、ウールワースやコールスなどのスーパーマーケットでは半袖の夏のユニフォームにサンタの帽子を被って勤務していたりします。
December is Christmas.
Australia is located in the southern hemisphere, so you can’t enjoy a White Christmas in winter like in the northern hemisphere. It will be a summer Christmas in this country(the season is the summer in December).
Surfers in Santa cosplays appear on the beach around Christmas, and supermarkets such as Woolworths and Coles staff wear short-sleeved summer uniforms and Santa hats.
ちなみに季節が冬になる7月では冬のクリスマスを味わうことが出来ます。
By the way, the season is winter in July, you can enjoy winter Christmas.
シドニーでは1年で2回クリスマスを堪能出来るのです。
We can enjoy Christmas twice a year in Sydney.

There are many Christmas-related events in Sydney.
マーティンプレイス Martin Place
マーティンプレイスでは毎年巨大なクリスマスツリーが11月下旬ごろから飾られます。
ニューサウスウェールズ州最大のクリスマスツリーと言われおり、110,000以上のLEDライト、3、4メートルサイズの色が変化する星、330個以上の光沢のある装飾で飾られています。
Every year at Martin Place, a huge Christmas tree is displayed from the end of November.
Described as the largest Christmas tree in New South Wales, it is adorned with over 110,000 LED lights, three or four metres of colour-changing stars and over 330 glossy decorations.
デンディー映画館 Christmas at Dendy Newtown
12月13日(水曜日)から12月24日(日曜日)までの計12日間毎日違うクリスマス映画をニュータウンにあるデンディー映画館(Dendy Newtown)で楽しむことが出来ます。
チケットは会員は＄12、一般入場料は＄15です
From Wednesday, 13th December to Sunday, 24th December, you can enjoy a different Christmas movie every day at the Dendy Newtown in Newtown.
Tickets are $12 for members and $15 for general admission.
クイーンビクトリアビルディング クリスマスツリー QVB Christmas Tree
毎年クイーンビクトリアビルディング(QVB)内に設置されるクリスマスツリー。アボリジニ文化とクリスマスを見て楽しむことが出来ます。
A Christmas tree installed in the Queen Victoria Building (QVB) every year. You can enjoy watching Aboriginal culture and Christmas.
ドメインキャロル Carols in the Domain
シドニー最大級のクリスマスキャロルがここドメイン(Domain)で行われます。
チケット販売をしているので早めの購入をお勧めします。また無料エリアはありますが場所を確保するためには早めに行く必要があります。チケット代は私が調べた時で席は＄84.90からありました。
Sydney’s biggest Christmas carol takes place at Domain.
Tickets are on sale now, so you purchase early. There is also a free area, but you need to go early to secure a place. Tickets were from $84.90 when I looked them up.

クリスマスライト Christmas Lights and Decorations
12月になるとシドニーのあちこちでクリスマスライトや装飾を見ることが出来ます。
You can see Christmas lights and decorations all over Sydney in December.
セントメアリー大聖堂 St Mary’s Cathedral
シドニー市内で最高のクリスマスライトショーは、セントメアリー大聖堂（St Mary’s Cathedral)の前で見ることが出来ます。
The best Christmas light show in Sydney takes place in front of St Mary’s Cathedral.

ダーリングハーバー Darlingharbour
シドニーでのクリスマスを家族や友達と時間を楽しく過ごそうと考えているのであればダーリングハーバーが良いのではないでしょうか。
花火にクリスマス装飾、クリスマスのオブジェが立ちならび、コックルベイではペダルボートが楽しめるなど多くのイベントが楽しめれます。
If you’re looking to spend Christmas time in Sydney with family and friends, Darling Harbour is good place.
You can enjoy many events such as fireworks, Christmas decorations, Christmas objects, and pedal boats in Cockle Bay.

バランガルーベル Barangaroo Bells
バランガルーにシドニーハーバーを照らすブランコ付きの3つの巨大なクリスマスベルが出現します。このベルには人が乗ることが出来、頂上に到達するたびにベルが鳴り点灯します。
バランガルーでクリスマスベルと共にディナーやドリンクを楽しんでみてはいかがですか？
Three giant Christmas bells with swings appear on the barangaroo that illuminate Sydney Harbour. People can ride on this bell, and the bell rings and lights up every time you reach the top.

シドニー市(Sydney City Council)は、クリスマス時期の市内にある装飾やライトディスプレイを案内するセルフガイドウォーキングアプリを発表しました。市内4㎞前後をカバーしており1～2時間ほどで見て周れるようになっています。
The City Council has launched a self-guided walking app that guides you through the city’s decorations and light displays during Christmas time. It covers about 4km in the city and can be seen and visited in about 1~2 hours.

ボクシングデー Boxing Day
ボクシングデー（Boxing Day)とは、12月26日でクリスマスの次の日になります。これは休日(public holiday)になります。
Boxing Day is December 26, the day after Christmas. This will be a public holiday.
「ボクシング(boxing)」と名前がついているので普通思い浮かべるのは、スポーツのボクシングだと思いますが、このボクシングは、BOX、箱からきているのです。
由来ですが、中世ヨーロッパ時代毎日働いている使用人のために送られた贈り物や、郵便配達員への感謝の気持ちを込めたプレゼントが「箱（box）」に入っており、それをクリスマスの翌日に開けたことからこの名前が着いたと言われていますし他にも諸説あります。
It is said that in medieval Europe, gifts sent for servants who worked every day and gifts to express gratitude to postmen were contained in “boxes”, which were opened the day after Christmas.
そんな “ボクシングデー Boxing Day”ですが、現在では「バーゲンの日」なのです。
Boxing Day is now a bargain day.
ボクシングデーセール Boxing Day Sale
毎年恒例クリスマス後のショッピングイベントがこのボクシングデーセール（Boxing Day Sale)になります。家電、美容、ファッションや、ブランドモノなどが最大80%オフで手に入れることが出来るセールです。狙っているアイテムがあるのであればこのセールで購入してみてはどうでしょうか？
The annual post-Christmas shopping event will be this Boxing Day Sale. It is a big sale where you can get home appliances, beauty, fashion, branded things, etc. for up to 80% off. If you have an item you are looking for, why not buy it at this sale?
また、大セールは何もボクシングデー(Boxing Day)だけではアリマセン。シドニーでは何回かのセール時期があります。セール時期を知って賢く買い物をしましょう。
Also, there is more big sale not just on Boxing Day. There are several sale seasons in Sydney. Know when the sale is and shop wisely.
シドニーフィッシュマーケットSydney Fish Market
シドニーフィッシュマーケット毎年恒例イベント36時間ぶっ通し営業です。シドニーフィッシュマーケットが12月23日午前5時から翌日クリスマスイブ(12月24日)午後5時まで計36時間ぶっ通しでオープンします。そしてクリスマスはお休みします。
Sydney Fish Market is an annual 36-hour event. The Sydney Fish Market will be open for a total of 36 hours from 5am on 23 December to 5pm on Christmas Eve (24 December). And Christmas is a day off.
大晦日カウントダウン花火 NYE Countdown Fireworks
大晦日のカウントダウン花火はシドニーが誇る世界的イベントの一つです。
この日は街中がそわそわしています。午後9時には1回目の花火がシドニーハーバーブリッジから上がり、気分をあげてくれます。そしてその年残り10秒ほどから何処からともなくテン、ナイン、エイトとカウントダウンが聞こえてきて年明けと共に花火がシドニー各所から上がり新年を迎えます。
The New Year’s Eve(NYE) countdown fireworks is one of Sydney’s most celebrated global events.
On this day, the whole city is fidgeting. At 9pm the first fireworks will go up from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Then, about 10 seconds left in the year, you can hear the countdown of ten, nine, eight, and with the beginning of the new year, fireworks go up from various places in Sydney to welcome the new year.
休み Holiday
クリスマス(Christmas)もボクシングデー(Boxing Day)も祝日扱いになりますし、学校も長い夏休みに入ります。それに合わせて親達も仕事を休みます。
なので、12月中旬以降は夏の開放的な雰囲気も重なりホリデームード満載になります。

Christmas Day and Boxing Day are both public holidays, and schools go on a long summer vacation. At the same time, parents also take time off from work.
So, from mid-December onwards, the open atmosphere of summer overlaps and the holiday mood in Sydney.

気を付けて欲しい事 Keep in mind
12月は多くの気になるイベントがあり何かと忙しいものです。その中夏のシドニーならではの気を付けて欲しいことがあります。
December can be a busy month, but there are a few things to keep in mind.
日焼け止め対策 Sunscreen
12月のシドニーの季節は夏です。
日差しが強い季節です。外出の際には日焼け止め対策を忘れずに。
The season in Sydney in December is summer.
Don’t forget to take sunscreen when you go out.
ブッシュファイヤーBush Fire
夏の空気はとても乾燥しています。
日差しが強く日焼けもヤケドになってしまいますが、それ以上に森林の自然発火も起こります。
この時期山に行くのであればしっかりとブッシュファイアーの情報を手に入れておいてください。
Summer air is very dry.
The sun is strong and sunburn, but more than that, spontaneous combustion of the forest occurs. It is BUSH FIRE.
If you are going to the mountains at this time, please make sure you have information on bushfire.
犯罪 Criminal
幾ら治安が良い街シドニーとはいえ、犯罪が全く無い訳ではアリマセン。
この時期は沢山のイベントがあります。それにかこつけて犯罪率も上がってきます。また季節が夏でもあります。どうしても開放的になってしまいますので注意してください。
Sydney is said to be safe, but it is not completely free of crime.
There are many events during this period. It also makes it easier for crime to occur.

December is the end of the year. Every country and every city is busy preparing for the New Year and looking back on the year.
There are so many events in Sydney, it will inevitably be exciting.
