シドニーの季節は9月から春になります。やっと寒い冬が終わり開放的になれる季節がやってきます。ここ数年はコロナで振り回されてきましたが、ほぼほぼコロナ前に戻っている状態のシドニー。
それでもこれからの季節ならではの注意事項があります。

ブッシュファイヤーとは、山火事の事です。
オーストラリアの空気は乾燥していて気温が高くなると脂分の成分が多いユーカリの葉が自然発火してそれが広がり大規模な山火事へと被害が広がるのです。
シドニーのローカル Rural Fire Service(RFS)では常に情報配信していますし注意を促しています。

Rural Fire Service(RFS)とは、ニューサウスウェールズ州(NSW)の消火活動の95%をカバーしている消火機関です。600人以上のスタッフに約7万人のボランティアが活躍しています。
The Rural Fire Service (RFS) is a fire extinguishing agency that covers 95% of fire fighting in New South Wales (NSW). There are more than 600 staff and about 70,000 volunteers.
ブッシュファイヤーはなぜ起きる? Why bushfires happen?
ブッシュファイヤーがなぜ起きてしまうのか？その原因のひとつとして乾燥し過ぎた空気と気温の上昇によって草木が発火してしまう事が挙げられています。
夏場の乾燥と高温に加え、森林エリアのユーカリの葉が油分を含んでいることから自然発火してしまうのです。
One of the causes of bushfires is that plants and trees catch fire due to too dry air and rising temperatures.
In addition to the dryness and high temperatures of summer, eucalyptus leaves in forest areas contain oil, which causes spontaneous combustion.

実はシドニーがあるニューサウスウェールズ州だけでなくオーストラリア全土至る所で毎年夏になるとブッシュファイヤーは起きています。

またオーストラリアでは9月から11月の雨量がとても少ないのです。ということは発火してしまえばなかなか鎮火しないことを意味します。

過去に起きた大規模なブッシュファイヤー Massive bushfires in the past
ブッシュファイヤーは毎夏起きている為その年によって被害の大きさは違います。過去に大規模なブッシュファイヤーが何度か起きています。

ブッシュファイヤーの役割 The role of bushfire
オーストラリアの広い範囲にあるユーカリの木は多くの油分を含んでいて非常に燃えやすいということがブッシュファイアーが頻繁に起こる原因の一つとされています。住宅地、農耕地、牧畜地への被害が出る場合もあります。コミュニティーによっては、ブッシュファイアー対策専門のボランティアを設けているところもあります。
Eucalyptus trees, which can be found in large areas of Australia, contain a lot of oil and are highly flammable, which is one of the reasons why bushfires are frequent. In some cases, damage to residential, agricultural and pastoral land may occur. Some communities have volunteers who specialize in fighting bushfires.
しかしこのブッシュファイアーによってオーストラリアの自然界はうまく循環している部分もあるのです。オーストラリアの植物の多くは、そのライフサイクルの中でブッシュファイヤーが重要な役割を実は持っています。開花の時期が火災発生時に限られる植物も多くあり、種子の放出をその熱に依存する樹木もあります。またブッシュファイヤーの後に誕生する新たな植物は、野生動物にとってもは貴重な食物供給源となっているのです。

オーストラリア気象局は、オーストラリア全体で10月まで平均気温が例年よりも高く平均よりも低い降雨量の予測をしています。ですのでブッシュファイヤーがより起きやすい状況になると発表しています。火災が発生しやすい地域に住む人々は火災のリスクが高まる準備を開始するように警告もしています。

2023年はハワイにカナダ、スペインで高温からくる山火事が起きています。
これから夏になるオーストラリア。今年は例年以上の乾燥、高温が予想されています。
高温になる原因に地球の温暖化が原因の一つとされています。
オーストラリアでは、毎年どこかで必ずブッシュファイヤーが発生しています。夏に山に行く予定があるのならば十分に気をつけてください。
