シドニー観光名所サーキュラーキーにあるオペラハウスはシドニーのシンボルでもあり、世界遺産にも登録されています。
1973年10月からオープンしたオペラハウスも今年(2023年)で50周年を迎えます。50周年を祝う多くのイベントが行われます。
The Opera House on Circular Quay is a symbol of Sydney and a World Heritage Site.
The opera house, which opened in October 1973, will also celebrate its 50th anniversary this year (2023). There are some events to celebrate our 50th anniversary.
オペラハウスとは Opera House
オペラハウスとは、オーストラリアのシドニーにあるコンサートホール・劇場で、20世紀を代表する近代建築物です。
The Opera House is a modern building that represents the 20th century in Australia.
デンマークの建築家ヨーン・ウツソン(Jørn Utzon)によって設計され、ピーター・ホール(Peter Hall)が率いるオーストラリアの建築チームによって1959年に着工し1973年に完成しています。
着工から完成まで実に14年もの時間が費やされています。その理由は、独創的すぎる形状で設計されているため作るのに時間がかかった為です。
Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, construction began in 1959 and was completed in 1973 by an Australian architectural team led by Peter Hall.
The reason why it took 14 years from the start of construction to completion was that it took a long time to create the structure because it was designed with an original shape.
そして1973年10月20日にエリザベス女王2世によって正式にオープンしました。
And it was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on October 20, 1973.
今ではシドニーのシンボルに留まらずオーストラリアのシンボルとして親しまれています。このシンボル(オペラハウス）を見るために世界から多くの観光客が集まっています。
Today, it is not only a symbol of Sydney, already a symbol of Australia. Many tourists from all over the world flock to see this symbol (Opera House).
世界遺産には2007年に登録されておりオーストラリアでは17番目の登録になります。これまで登録された世界遺産の中で最も新しい建築物になるのもオペラハウスの特徴です。
It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2007 and is the 17th in Australia. Another feature of the opera house is that it is the newest building ever registered among the World Heritage Sites.

オペラハウスは世界遺産です。ですがニューサウスウェールズ州にある世界遺産はオペラハウスだけではありません。他にもあるのです。
The Opera House is a World Heritage Site. But the Opera House isn’t the only World Heritage Site in New South Wales.
シドニーにある囚人遺跡群 Convict Sites in Sydney
オーストラリアにある囚人遺跡群は2010年に世界遺産に登録されました。そのうち3ヶ所がニューサウスウェールズ州にあります。
The convict sites in Australia were declared a World Heritage Site in 2010. Three of them are in New South Wales.

The Willandra Lakes region is a desert area in south-west New South Wales that is the site of a 40,000-year-old lake.
ブルーマウンテンズ地域/ Blue Mountains
ブルー・マウンテンズ地域は、2000年に世界遺産に登録されブルー・マウンテン国立公園を含む7つの国立公園とジェノラン・ケイブス・カルスト保護区一帯を指します。
ブルー・マウンテンズ地域にあるペンリス(Penrith)では、5月にTwilight Penrith Festival、Penrith Show等賑やかなイベントがあります。
The Blue Mountains region comprises seven national parks, including the Blue Mountains National Park, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000 and is part of the Jenolan Caves Karst Reserve.
Penrith in the Blue Mountains region hosts lively events such as the Twilight Penrith Festival and Penrith Show in May.

オペラハウス50周年記念イベント Opera House 50th Anniversary Events
9月3日(日曜日)から50周年記念イベントが続々と始まります。
The 50th anniversary celebrations will begin on 3rd Sunday, September.

普段からオペラハウスでは、オペラ、クラシック、ダンス、演劇、現代音楽、といった芸術を身近で触れることができる場所です。それが10月の誕生月に向けて50日間続けて無料でストリーミングで視聴することが出来ます。
The opera house is a place where you can experience the arts such as opera, classical, dance, theater, and contemporary music.
The Visitors
2020年シドニー・フェスティバルでシドニー・シアター賞を受賞したこの作品、「ザ・ビジターズ」は、オーストラリア、シドニーの歴史を元に作られた演劇です。
Winner of the Sydney Theatre Award at the 2020 Sydney Festival, The Visitors is a play based on the history of Sydney, Australia.
1788年1月はオーストラリアにとって特別な年。この時にイギリス海軍アーサー・フィリップが率いる植民船団がシドニーに到着したと言われています。シドニー湾に上陸しここからイギリス植民地として開拓が始められシドニーの基礎を築いたとされていて、それを途中休憩なしの75分で演じます。
期間は9月11日(月曜日)から10月14日(土曜日)まで。
January 1788 was a special year for Australia. It is said that at this time a colonial convoy led by Arthur Philip of the Royal Navy arrived in Sydney. It is said that he landed on Sydney Harbour and began to settle as a British colony from here and laid the foundation for Sydney, and it is performed in 75 minutes without a break in the middle.

ちなみに、1月には建国記念日に当たるオーストラリアデー（Australia Day)が祝日としてあります。

期間は9月23日(土曜日)から10月7日(土曜日)まで。

Open House Weekend
10月21日(土曜日)、22日(日曜日)の2日間オペラハウス館内を入場無料で探索できます。もちろんルートは決まっていますが90分かかるのでオペラハウス内部を十分に堪能出来ます。
You can explore the Opera House for two days on 21st Saturday, October and 22nd Sunday, October, free admission. Of course, the route is fixed, but it takes 90 minutes, so you can fully enjoy the inside of the opera house.

初めてのパフォーマンス First time performance
オペラハウスで行われた初めてのパフォーマンスは実は建設中に行われていました。俳優でベースシンガーでもあるポール・ロブソン（Paul Robeson）が1960年、オペラハウスを建設している人達に向けてオペラハウス建設現場で歌を歌ったのが初めてのパフォーマンス。
The first performance at the opera house was actually during construction. In 1960, actor and bass singer Paul Robeson sang a song to the people building the opera house at the construction site.
タイルについて About tiles
オペラハウスの屋根にはタイルが使われています。その数なんと1,056,006個です。そのタイルですが実は2色構成。理由は、まっ白なタイルでは太陽が反射しすぎる為。それを避けるために考え出されたようです。
Tiles are used for the roof of the opera house. The number is a whopping 1,056,006. The tile is actually composed of two colors. The reason is that the sun is too reflective with white tiles. It seems to have been figured out to avoid it.

マーケット Market
普段から毎週土曜日、日曜日はマーケットが開催されており週末のロックスは賑やかです。それが季節も変わり暖かくなっているこの時期(9月から11月は暦の上では春です)は尚更気分も上がるもの。それがオペラハウス50周年記念と相見まえれば更に華やかになること間違いなしです。
The market is usually held every Saturday and Sunday, and Rocks on weekends is lively. However, the seasons change and it is warmer (September to November is spring according to the calendar), and the mood is even better. Combined with the 50th anniversary of the opera house, it is sure to be even more spectacular.
