その英語が分かれば解るほど仕事に生活に友達作りに困りません。有意義な時間を過ごせます。
オーストラリアの他の都市や州は分かりませんが、実はシドニーではコロナ前と比べて英語の必要性は高くなっているのです。
普通に生活するだけでもそれなりに英語力が必要になっています。
The official language of Australia is in English.
You don’t have to worry about work, life, or making friends. You can spend a meaningful time if you understand in English.
I don’t know about other cities and states in Australia, but the need for English is higher in Sydney than before Covid.
Even just living a normal life requires a certain amount of English proficiency.
なぜ英語が必要? Why need in English?
明るいオージー気質に温暖な気候、雄大な自然に治安の良さ等、様々な魅力がありワーキングホリデーや留学生に大変人気が高いオーストラリア。
そのオーストラリアの公用語は英語です。
公用語が解って困りません。
またコロナによって英語がより身近になってしまったことも関係しているのではないかと思います。
Australia has a bright Aussie characters, a nice climate, and magnificent nature and is very popular with working holidays and international students.

I also think it is related to the fact that English has become more familiar due to Corona.
英語がより身近になるとは? What does it mean to become more familiar with English?
オーストラリア、シドニーにいるのだから英語が身近にあるのは当たり前と思うかもしれませんが違うんです。
You may think that English is familiar to you, but it is not.
私は今もシドニー郊外にあるレストランで働いています。
その実体験からです。
I still work in a restaurant on the suburb of Sydney.
It’s from my real experience.
コロナ前は、日本食レストランでの求人は日本人を採用するために日系サイトに求人を出していました。それで事が済んだのでそんなに深刻に求人に対して捉えていませんでした。それがコロナによって一変しました。
コロナによってロックダウンが実行されたり、規制が厳しくなったり、国外から入国出来なくなったりと日々の生活に支障が出てウイルスに振り回されてきました。
今ある多くの飲食店はそれらを乗り越えてきたところばかりです。私が働いているレストランも同じでコロナ被害を乗り越えてきました。
コロナ禍では、規制やビザの関係もあってワーキングホリデーや海外留学生は帰国していきました。そして新規入国者はいませんでした。
誰かが帰国していきその人に変わる新人を見つけにくいことが多くの飲食店の現場で起きたのです。特にワーキングホリデーや海外留学生を多く雇用している飲食店では大変でした。
そのため飲食店が生き残ってきた背景には、今まで関わらなかった人たちを採用することでした。
求人もローカルサイトを利用したり、他の国のコミュニティサイトに掲示したりしました。
私が働いているレストランも同じでコロナ前は郊外にあるレストランと言えども日系サイトに求人を載せれば直ぐにスタッフを見つけることが出来、日本人を採用することに不便を感じなかったのですが、コロナ禍で一変しました。帰国者はいますが新規入国者が居ないのです。それでもお店は継続していかなければなりません。となると今まで関わなかった人たちを採用、教育していくしかなかったのです。
その彼ら、彼女たちを採用し教育していくには英語でコミュニケーションを取らないといけません。英語が出来ないとか、上手く聞き取れないなどそんな甘い言い訳は全く効きません。なので英語がより身近になってしまいました。
こういった背景があり英語を使う機会が増えてしまいました。
Before COVID-19, I posted job openings on Japanese sites, mainly to hire Japanese. That has changed completely with COVID-19.
COVID-19 has interfered with daily life, such as lockdowns, stricter regulations, and has been swayed by the virus.
Many restaurants that exist today have overcome these obstacles. The restaurant where I work has also survived the damage caused by COVID-19.
During the COVID-19 disaster, due to restrictions and visa issues, working holidays and international students returned to their home countries. And there were no newcomers.
It was difficult to find a new person to replace someone when they returned to Japan, which happened at many restaurants.
Therefore, the reason why restaurants have survived is to hire people who have not been involved before.
In order to recruit and educate them, we must communicate in English. Excuses such as not being able to speak English or not being able to understand it do not work at all. So English has become more familiar.
Against this background, everyone have more opportunities to use English.
オーストラリアで必要な英語力 English proficiency required in Australia
その英語がより身近になったシドニーで一体どれくらいの英語力が必要なのか。
シドニーのみならずオーストラリアはIELTS(アイエルツ)のスコアが基準になっている場合や状況が多くあります。
また多くの語学学校でも英語力によってクラス分けが行われています。
アイエルツを受けてみるとか語学学校に行って見れば自分の英語力が分かりやすくなっているのです。
How much English do you need in Sydney?
Not only Sydney, but also Australia has many situations where IELTS scores are used as a standard.

If you take an IELTS or go to a language school, it will be easier for you to understand your English ability.
*IELTS(アイエルツ)とは?
IELTS(アイエルツ)とは、IELTS（International English Language Testing System）の略語で、アメリカ、オーストラリア、ニュージーランド、カナダ、そしてイギリスを含む英語圏の国に留学、就労または移住を希望する人々の英語力を測定する英語試験の事です。
IELTSアカデミックとIELTSジェネラルの2つのタイプがあり、4つの英語スキル（書く、読む、聞く、話す）をテストされます。ちなみに永住権を申請するにはこの4つの英語スキルのテスト結果が5.5以上無いといけません。

忙しくない職場とかスピードを要求されない仕事であれば初級(Elementary)でも良いとは思うのですが、ビギナー(Beginner)ではただ生活するだけでも不便を感じるかもしれません。
自分がシドニーで何をするのか?何がしたいのか?で必要としてくる英語力が見えてくるのではないでしょうか?
Elementary is ok if it is a work that is not busy or does not require speed, but beginners may feel inconvenient just to live.

仕事を手に入れるためには How to get a job
自分の英語力がわかれば仕事に必要な英語力も見えてくるもの。
専門用語がわかっていなければならない職種もあれば、接客時に元気よく声をかけることが大事な仕事もあります。
自分がどんな仕事に就こうと考えているかによって必要とされる英語力は違ってきます。
これも私の経験からですが、コロナ前であれば日本食レストランのキッチンの仕事に就こうと思っていれば英語力は殆ど必要としませんでした。なぜなら日本人が多く働いていたからです。もしくは日本語がよくわかる人たち。それが今はそれなりに英語力が必要になりました。理由はコロナによって新規入国者がいない時期があり都合よく日本人を採用出来なかったからです。日本語が分からなくても教育していけば何とかなること、意思表示できる程度の英語力で何とかなる場合が多いことに現場も気づいたからです。なので意思表示できる英語力は必要です。
Some jobs require you to understand technical terms, while others require you to talk to customers cheerfully.
Depending on what kind of job you are thinking of doing, the English proficiency required will vary.
This is also from my experience, but before COVID-19, if you wanted to get a job in the kitchen of a Japanese restaurant, you do not need any English skills. Because there were a lot of Japanese working. Or people who understand Japanese well.
Now everybody need English skills. The reason is that there was a time when there were no new entrants due to COVID-19.
Therefore, it is necessary to have English skills to be able to express your intentions.
アコモデーションを見つけるためには How to find accommodation
シェアアコモデーションを見つけるにしても自分で部屋を借りるにしてもそこそこの英語力が必要です。
不動産屋を通して部屋を借りるのであれば契約書があり契約がルールがあります。それらを理解すれば良いのですがそれは全て英語で表記されています。
シェアアコモデーションの場合は、そのフラットを管理している人がルールを作っているケースが多く明確でない場合があり、不備があったり文句を言いたくても英語が出来なければ泣き寝入りするしかないのです。
そうならないためにも英語力はそれなりにあって困りません。

旅行先の情報を探したり、訪れる先々で誰かと話をしたりします。なので国内を旅行するにも英語力は必要になってきます。

今はもう旅行も自由です。コロナの影に脅えていません。
英語が分からなければ楽しみも半減します。

学校 School
こちらで勉強をしていて更に高い知識を求めればそれにあった専門学校に行くものです。そうなると英単語力を増やしたり、より英語を理解出来るよう勉強するものです。
If you are studying and seeking higher knowledge, you will go to a college or university. In that case, you will improve your English vocabulary and study to understand English better.
ビザを取得するためにも to get VISA
オーストラリアに来てアルバイトをしていてそこで正式に採用される場合もあります。このパターンになった場合はアイエルツ(IELTS)を受けスコアを出さなければなりません。
In some cases, you may come to Australia and work part-time and be officially hired. If this case, you must take IELTS.
英語勉強方法 to study English
シェアアコモデーションを探すにしても、仕事を得るにしても、友達(日本人以外)が出来てコミュニケーションをとるにしても、何をするにしても英語は必要です。
英語はシドニーに居るのであれば出来て困りません。
Whether you’re looking for share accommodation, getting a job, making friends (other than Japanese) and communicating, English is necessary for whatever you do.

「これをやれば英語ができるようになる」
とか、
「この方法で英語が出来るようになった」
といった感じで英語勉強法やアプリが多くあるのが今の世の中。色々手を出してしまうものです。

英語の上達には、1度決めた教材や学習方法を最後までやり遂げることが大切。
また、同じ教材を何度も繰り返すことで、以前間違えた問題を覚えていて直すことができたかどうか確認することが出来たりします。
他の人から、「こっちの勉強方法がよかったよ」と聞いても目移りしないで継続して今行っている勉強法を最後までやりきった方が充実感も得ることが出来ると思います。
私の経験からですが、勉強法を途中で変えることは、その時は目新しく感じましたが何度か勉強法を変えてしまうと勉強意欲の低下に繋がりました。なので自分が長続きしそうな勉強法が1番効果があるように思えます。
In order to improve your English, it is important to complete the materials and learning methods that you have decided on once.
By repeating the same material over and over again, you can remember and fixed mistakes in the past. Even if you hear from other people that you liked a different study method, You should continue to work until the end without shifting your eyes.
Changing study method felt novel at the time, led to a decrease in motivation to study. Therefore, it seems that the study method that I think will last for a long time will be the most effective.
来豪前にも準備 Preparing before coming to Australia
まだオーストラリアに来ていないのであればその準備の一環として英語力をあげておいてはどうでしょうか?
なんとかなると思いこちらに来たのは良いが英語の壁にぶち当たり現実を目の当たりにします。時給は高いが物価も高い。仕事が手に入らず貯金は日々減っていく。そうなると心が折れ何の為にシドニーまで来たのか分からなくなります。
来豪前にできる限りの準備は行って損はしません。

It’s good that I came here thinking that I could manage it, but realize reality. Hourly wages are high, but prices are so high. You can’t get a job then savings are decreasing day by day. You will not know what you came to Sydney for.

コロナ前に比べて今の方が英語がより身近になり、仕事探しやシェアアコモデーション探しも英語力を以前より必要としています。
英語が出来て困りませんが、だからといって英語と距離をとってしまってはもったいないです。
間違いや失敗を恐れずに開き直って習うより慣れろで英語に立ち向かえばその分自分の糧になると思います。
English is more familiar now than before COVID-19, and English proficiency is required more than before when looking for a job or looking for a share accommodation and many situation.
If you get used to English and face it, it will be more useful for you.
